A man killed in a crash at the intersection of Texas 71 and FM 973 earlier this week has been identified as 46-year-old Juan Narciso Garcia, police said Thursday.
Police responded at 6:15 a.m. on Monday to reports of a wreck at the intersection.
According to a preliminary police investigation, a white Ford F-350 was traveling west on the Texas 71 service road when a blue Ford Mustang, which Garcia was driving, was heading south on FM 973.
The Mustang ran a red light at the intersection, police said, and hit the left side of Garciaâ€™s vehicle.Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not identify the driver of the second car.
Police said Garciaâ€™s death was the cityâ€™s 30th traffic fatality of the year. At this time last year, police reported 29 traffic deaths.
Garciaâ€™s case is still being investigated and police are asking anyone with information to call the Vehicular Homicide Unit detectives at 512-974-4424.
