NHTSA Expands Probe into Honda Vehicles
Defective products can pose significant risks to consumers, leading to serious injuries or even fatalities. A recent article from the Austin American-Statesman highlights investigations into potential defects in vehicles from major manufacturers, underscoring the importance of product safety.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has expanded and upgraded its probe into approximately 295,125 Honda vehicles. Reports indicate that the automatic emergency braking systems in these vehicles may inadvertently activate, causing sudden deceleration and increasing the risk of collisions. The affected models include the 2019-2022 Honda Insight and the Honda Passport SUV. The investigation now encompasses 2023 Honda Passport vehicles as well.
In a similar vein, the NHTSA is intensifying its investigation into 129,222 Ford Motor vehicles equipped with the company’s hands-free driving technology, BlueCruise. This action follows reports of collisions involving the system, including two fatal incidents in April. The probe covers Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles from the 2021-2024 model years. Preliminary findings suggest that the BlueCruise system may have limitations in detecting stationary vehicles at highway speeds during nighttime conditions.
These investigations highlight the critical role of product liability laws in protecting consumers from defective products. In the United States, product liability claims can be based on several legal theories, including negligence, strict liability, and breach of warranty. Negligence involves proving that a manufacturer failed to exercise reasonable care in the design or production of a product. Strict liability holds manufacturers accountable for defects, regardless of fault, as long as the product was being used as intended. Breach of warranty claims arise when a product fails to meet the terms of its express or implied assurances.
Consumers injured by defective products may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. If you or a loved one has been harmed by a defective product, it’s crucial to consult with a personal injury attorney experienced in product liability cases to understand your rights and legal options.
